2025 Volkswagen Tiguan Awarded High Marks from IIHS Crash Tests
February 01 2026 - Team Gillman Volkswagen

The new third-generation Volkswagen Tiguan is known for many things, including its commitment to keeping you safe. Now, we have proof. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recently conducted a series of crash tests on various vehicles, including the 2025 Volkswagen Tiguan, through the New Car Assessment Program (NCAP). We are happy to report that it has earned a 5-Star overall safety rating from these tests.

Since 1978, the NHTSA has been tasked through the Highway Safety Act to provide consumers with safety information based on these NCAP tests. This was in response to the need to reduce crash-related deaths, injuries, and costs. From this act came the 5-Star rating system. This serves as a guide for consumers to see how vehicles they are shopping for fare in these tests compared to others.

The NHTSA conducts multiple crash tests, each rated from one to five stars – five being the highest a vehicle can earn. A compilation of ratings determines the overall star score. Earning a 5-Star overall rating shows that a vehicle can protect its occupants and itself from significant harm during a traffic incident.

The 5-Star overall rating given to the 2025 Tiguan demonstrates the commitment by Volkswagen to engineering and assembling vehicles that people will feel confident driving every day. Volkswagen prioritizes passenger safety in every model.

Part of that commitment is the introduction of four new airbags inside the 2025 Tiguan. These new restraints are the driver knee airbag, center airbag, and dual rear side airbags. The curtain airbags now have a larger deployment zone over the passenger cabin.

That commitment is further reinforced with a comprehensive list of standard safety and driver assistance features that are standard on every 2025 Tiguan. Most of them are part of the IQ.DRIVE, a suite of Level 2 equipment working together to keep the vehicle and its occupants safe from harm. These features include Travel Assist, Front Assist – including Forward Collision Warning and Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian & Cyclist Monitoring - Active Blind Spot Monitor, Rear Traffic Alert, Adaptive Cruise Control Stop and Go, Lane Assist, and Emergency Assist. Light Assist, Park Distance Control, and Exit Warning. Park Assist Plus is also an available feature.

The 2025 Tiguan is not the only Volkswagen model that has earned a 5-Star overall rating from the NHTSA in NCAP tests. It joins the 2025 Atlas, Atlas Cross Sport, ID.4, Jetta, and Jetta GLI wearing those five stars proudly.
