2026 Tiguan Wins SUV of the Year in Latin Flavor Car of the Year Awards
April 01 2026 - Team Gillman Volkswagen

Team Gillman Volkswagen is proud to announce that the Tiguan has been awarded SUV of the Year in the 2026 Latin Flavor Cars of the Year Awards. This follows the Atlas receiving the same award in 2024 and the ID.Buzz being named EV of the Year in 2025.

The Latin Flavor Car of the Year Awards are determined and presented by Puros Autos, a leading bilingual automotive website in the U.S. that provides news, reviews, and insights tailored to the Hispanic population. Puros Autos was founded and edited by veteran automotive journalist Enrique Kogan, who works with a team of Hispanic journalists nationwide. The Latin Flavor Car of the Year Awards highlight the growing purchasing power and brand preferences among Hispanics by celebrating brands that recognize this trend and have adjusted their marketing and product strategies to better serve this demographic.

The third-generation Tiguan launched for the 2025 model year with more power, improved fuel efficiency, and enhanced safety features than the previous model, along with a luxurious interior and a distinctive exterior design. Available trims include S, SE, and SE R-Line Black, all of which are powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-4 producing 201 horsepower and 221 lb-ft of torque, paired with an 8-speed transmission and available with a choice of FWD and AWD.

At the top of the model lineup is the SEL R-Line Turbo, featuring a 268-hp turbocharged version of the same 2.0-liter engine. All Tiguan models come with an updated Travel Assist system that enables driver-initiated lane changes. The starting MSRP is $30,805.

Puros Autos took note of all of the improvements in the latest Tiguan generation, including its more aggressive styling and advancements in connectivity technology and active safety.

“This model reinforces its position as one of the most complete compact SUVs on the market with updates that prioritize the digital experience and comprehensive occupant protection.”

They particularly noted the new infotainment system, which features a standard 12.9-inch screen and an available 15-inch display, wireless smartphone app compatibility, and improved voice recognition. In addition, they cited expanded safety technologies, including blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control, all standard across the model line. It also received a 5-Star overall safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

It is worth noting that this award comes on top of the Tiguan being named to the Car and Driver Editor’s Choice list for compact SUVs. Find out what all the excitement about the Tiguan is about by visiting Team Gillman Volkswagen and test-driving one yourself.
